Alot of people thought this guy was going to have major league success faster than Homer Bailey but even I didn't see that start coming. He had very impressive control today and I don't really see that lasting all season long, but he's a good guy to grab as he faces teams for the first time, then move him at around the halfway mark when his value is at it's highest.

I don't think Volquez is ready for major league success right away to be honest. He's a good bet to have a 4.3 ERA or so and be very useful, but Cueto just seems like he has alot more top-end potential to me. Volquez is definitely going to be a nice major leaguer though. He'll be more consistent, but I just don't see that "possible ace" aura around him.

Cueto looked pretty good today. 7IP, 5 hits, 2 walks, 2 ERs, 5Ks.

Vazquez had a pretty good start in Wrigley as well.

5 IP, 4 hits, 4 walks, 1 ER, 7Ks.

I really didn't see it coming this early but he'll definitely fall back to Earth. His ERA and WHIP are the exact same right now meaning he's been extremely lucky.

On the other side of the argument, Cueto has a .87 WHIP and somehow has a 4.05 ERA from it.

I still think Cueto is the better bet. Both have been nice though. Early edge to your boy.

Too bad they both have the same asshole for a manager..this team should be competing this year and I think that this issue should be bought up in the main forum...Dusty Baker STINKS!!

What is the O/U on seasons before these young fellas have Tommy John? 2? 3? Dusty knows how to destroy young arms...

Too much of a veteran type of manager...not sold on the ruining of arms (but you do have a point)...I just think Baker has an aversion to winning and he doesn't know how to manage younger players..Bruce should be called up and given the CF's job...

I love Votto coming into this season but I still am not sold on Bruce being ready. I could see them making the swap if they fall out of the playoff race but do you really think it's a good idea now? I mean Patterson hit .276 with 16 homers and 46 steals just two years ago. His power should go up to 20+ HRs playing in Cincy.

PS, I think Hopper is a better candidate for this season. I know Bruce has all sorts of potential but I don't think he's MLB ready just yet. Then I again I said the same thing about another Red in this thread...

I'm a Philly fan, but trying to objective on the Reds...Patterson is done and I think the Reds shouldn't give up on their season...Reds have many good young players to go along with Griffey, Dunn, and Harang...I just believe they are underachieving...

Very nice considering the Braves hit so well at home. He continues to surprise me... I still think he's a potential fade in the 2nd half. Same as Cueto would be if he was having success. So far, so good. Nice call.
